The Honorable Judge Morris Jacobson of Alameda has ordered the trial of  Johannes Mehserle to downtown L.A.; O.J. acquitted in same building.

WILL THERE BE JUSTICE BEHIND THESE WALLS?

WILL THERE BE JUSTICE BEHIND THESE WALLS?

The Criminal Courts Building in downtown L.A. is referred to by its former name, out of respect for Clara Shortridge Foltz, whose legacy the structure now honors.

The champion suffragette passed in 1934 and was the first female lawyer on the west coast. She passed the bar in 1878,  but as a female was not allowed to join. So Ms. Foltz wrote the California bill replacing the language, “white male,” with “person.” Then she became the first female admitted to the California state bar.

It is doubtful Ms. Foltz would have enjoyed witnessing the famous dual murder trial of O.J. Simpson in 1995. Thankfully the dedication of the building to her name occured 7 years later in 2002.

A widow, Ms. Foltz raised 5 children and counts becoming the first female deputy district attorney in the United States among her many accomplishments.

Time will tell if the honor of Clara Shortridge Foltz will be served with justice in the murder trial of Johannes Mehserle.

Rest in peace, Ms. Foltz.
